4SPIN’s Versatility for Swiss Nano Students is Vital

As a public institution, the University of Applied Sciences of Western Switzerland (HES-SO) has two main missions: the education of future engineers, and research for the local, Swiss and international industries.

Students having chosen the "micro-nanosystems and electronics" curriculum, learn about state-of-the-art technologies. The growing field of electrospinning falls within that category. With its simplicity of use and varied flexibility, the 4SPIN LAB allows students to safely familiarize themselves with the creation of micro and nano fibers, and develop a feeling about the influence of a number of parameters. Students having developed a particular interest in electrospinning are now working alongside senior researchers on concrete projects concerning blood filtration (lab-on-a-chip), conductive fibers and drug release. Associated with the conformal deposition of the so-called "Parylene" polymer - either with Solid on Liquid Technology (SOLID) or Tubes by Fiber Templates Technology (TUFT) - the 4SPIN is a powerful tool, allowing controllable results, which is vital.

The 4SPIN is versatile enough to be a research lab tool, with the possibility of small-scale production, a good combination for technological transfer, towards which HES-SO is also orientated.

A pre-production collector like the C6 Endless Belt can be used in the 4SPIN LAB to simulate actual production manufacturing, or to create tubes, simply insert the C5 Tube collector, it is that simple.

The 4SPIN team and the University of Applied Sciences Western Switzerland met at INDEX 17 this year and 2 members of staff visited the 4SPIN Showroom for a 2 day trial, the end result being that Students at HES-SO can now use this cutting edge technology of the 4SPIN to potentially help others in our world.
